Why start mantrailing?It's fun! Working with your dog as a team to search for a hidden person in beautiful locations. It allows your dog to express natural behaviours of sniffing and searching, these are rewarding for your dog and mentally challenging, leading to a happy and content dog!

My dog is nervous, is it suitable?Yes! we only work dogs one at a time. Mantrailing will build your dog's confidence with time, as the dog's are rewarded for finding their missing person and get lots of confidence boots from this! Please inform your instructor about your dog's behaviour issues before the session.

What equipment do I need to get started?You will be sent an information list before the session but the basic equipment includes: A longline (between 5-10m in length) A Y-shaped harness Your dog's normal collar and lead Gloves ; if your dog is strong on-lead A scent article (a snood or glove that smells of you that can be put in a sealed zip bag) Three small food pots (sealable plastic tuppaware) that fit in pockets A high value food reward (ideally something that is wet which can be licked, e.g. wet dog food or squeezy cheese) or their favourite toy if they are more toy motivated Normal dog treats Water for the dog & yourself Poo bags Suitable footwear (e.g. walking boots or good trainers) Suitable clothing (eg warm & waterproof coat / trousers)

What can I expect on an Introduction workshop?During your introduction workshop you will be taught: How dogs see scent & how mantrailing works Line handling skills – Using the lead as a line of communication, allowing you and your dog to communicate with each other and become bonded as a team You and your dog will work as a team to complete 3 trails to find 3 hidden people! All dogs are worked individually so will need to be happy waiting in the car in between turns, you can always bring another person to sit with your dog if they need it.
